Understand the Homework
The primary step should be to understand what the teachers want students to do. Parents can attend Parents Teachers Meeting to understand what the syllabus is and what are the teachers teaching to their students. Parents can also check the notebooks of their children to understand what tutors are teaching their children.
Create a space for study
The next step is to set up an environment where a child can study and complete his homework. This can be done by giving children a study table or a quiet separate room with no disturbance where the child can study without any hindrance.
Availability of relevant tools
Now, parents/caregivers need to ensure whether their child has all the essential tools through which they can complete their homework. This includes the presence of textbook, paper, pen, eyeglasses, etc.
Planning the homework
Prepare a schedule for your child which includes the time allotment for the various activities. Divide the time equally for all the activities to ensure that the child contributes equally to all. Parents/caregivers can prepare a checklist and put it on their study table which their child would follow.
Schedule the prior activities first
The things that are urgent and had to be delivered to the teacher urgently must be the first priority of the children. Parents need to ensure that their children complete those activities first before moving to some other activity.
Ensure that your child follows the plan
As the checklist is prepared now, we need to ensure that the child follows all the activities as prescribed in their action plan. Parents can check their child’s time activities in between the allocated time to make sure that their child is following the schedule as made in the timetable.
Be a problem solver in difficulties
This step involves your participation. If your child is stuck somewhere while doing their homework, you must help them to complete their homework. You should ensure that your child understands the things appropriately.
Motivate your child to complete the homework
Your child will not complete his homework unless he feels motivated or has a good reason for the completion of homework. Tell some good stories about the completion of homework, tell them the implications of not doing it. This will make them feel motivated and they will do their homework.
Analyze the Homework
Now, as your child has completed his homework, it is your duty to ensure whether he has done the things correctly or he has just done something irrelevant. You must analyze the answers and ensure that the things have been done in a correct way as is taught by his teacher.
Praise him for his homework
If the homework is correct then you should appreciate him for his good work. This will make him applauded and he will deliver better results next time.
Follow these steps to ensure that your child completes his homework well. If you face any difficulty during the process, please consult a tutor who would help your child in his studies.
